Add Some Sophistication to Traditional Interior Decorating

Traditional interior design is an understated, non-formal, almost forgotten style based off of a by-gone American ideal. The way this style works is that traditional interior design focuses on the textures, shapes, colors, and materials that are used throughout a home, rather than its layout or overall design. Traditional interior design uses items such as window treatments and furniture that have a more earthy, country feel to them. These elements bring out a sense of "home" and give your home a more comfortable and authentic feel than modern interior designs.

Great Example of Traditional Interior Design

A great example of traditional interior designs is vases. Vases are one of the most elegant pieces of home decorating accessories. A classic vase will always be an item that will never go out of style. Vintage vases can range from the very common and basic to extremely valuable and rare ones. You can find these vases in just about every size imaginable, so there's bound to be a vase that will fit into your home decorating budget.

Another excellent example of a traditional interior decoration piece is the warm tones. Warm tones, also known as "warm colors", are simply those with a warm tone to them. This doesn't mean that the colors themselves will be warm. Rather, it's the warmth that is presented by the hue itself that gives a room with this warm tone. Warm tones come from a combination of browns, tans, grays, greens, blues, and even blacks.

Another wonderful example of traditional patterns are the use of textures and rich colors. Textures like velvet and rich fabrics are often used in combination with other colors to create rich tones. For example, a sofa with a brown and gold recliner would be considered rich, whereas a same model with a rich orange color and a brown lace upholstered sofa would be considered more casual. Rich colors work extremely well in traditional interiors, because they can tie together many different patterns and textures.

Shabby Chic Interior Design Style

As stated above, another very popular style of interior design today is known as "Shabby chic". In this style, the goal is to create a look that is airy, simple, warm, and romantic. Using this style, the goal is to highlight the wood elements in the space while minimizing the use of shiny metal and plastic materials. Because the goal is to create an airy look, all too often the furniture and accents in this style are left bare. This creates a unique and charming touch to any room that is both classic and charming.

The last example of traditional home decorating is that of the regal and ornate Victorian style. Just as it's name implies, the Victorian style tries to emulate the look of a more traditional home. This can include such elements as warm, rich colors, intricate carvings, and lots of natural wood elements. One thing that is most important when considering this style is that you have enough space to move around in. Too many people choose the Victorian look simply because it is so inviting, but they don't have the room needed for a true Victoria.

Adding Traditional Elements To The Room

Just as with the other traditional design elements we discussed, adding a few traditional elements can really pull an entire room together. One of the most common pieces is a table cloth or napkin set. These two pieces are very easy to integrate into the overall design scheme of a room because they are so common. They are also relatively inexpensive compared to other accent pieces. Napkins are especially great because they can be used to display family photos or treasured photos (for example, if your kids have taken some of their favorite pictures with their digital camera and you want to preserve them in the future), or they can simply be used as a basic table decoration.

The key to decorating in the traditional style homes is symmetry. symmetry refers not just to the arrangement of furniture pieces within a room, but to the overall appearance. If your windows are all on the same side of the house, you may want to create a similar look throughout the entire house by including one sofa in each hallway and using one set of doors leading from doorway to doorway throughout the house. You should also remember that lighter colors tend to blend better with darker colors, so keep that in mind when choosing the curtains and other decorative items for your home. By using symmetry in the elements of your interior design, you will create a look that is both inviting and comfortable.
